On loan defender Joe Widdowson has admitted that he’s looking forward to getting going at Dagenham and Redbridge following his arrival from Bury ahead of the loan window closure.

Speaking to the Official Site Widdowson admitted that following the clean sheet against Bury he knows he’ll have to fight for a place in the team first though if he’s going to get the games he wants here.

‘I’m really excited to be here, I’m looking forward to training more with the lads and playing some games. I started at West Ham and has a couple of loan spells away, I went to Rotherham and Grimsby. Then I got released by West Ham and joined Grimsby permanently where I stayed for a year and a half. After that I went to Rotherham for 2 years and then Northampton for another 2 years, then more recently I joined Bury and had a loan spell at Morecambe.’

Possibly a player looking for a home as he’s moved around a fair bit, but he does know all about Dagenham as he’s old friends with Zavon Hines and of course he knows a few faces in the squad as well from either playing with them or against them, so he’s not expecting any trouble settling in which he knows will help him to impress more quickly.

‘I’m sure there will be a lot of competition to get into the team, it was a good result at the weekend and we got the clean sheet, everybody put in a good shift so I’m just going to work hard and hopefully get a place in the team. I just want to play as much as I can.’

As part of that and playing games, he also admitted his aim is to help us pick up and points and climb up the table and then the future may sort itself out.
