Manager Wayne Burnett has said he’s looking for an uplift in our away form when we face Portsmouth on Boxing Day.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the match, Burnett again talked of his disappointment at the Torquay result, but said he felt we had prepared well for the Pompey trip.

‘Portsmouth have a new manager, a friend of mine and it’s going to be a tough game. We’ve had them watched, and they were unfortunate to get beat at home to Newport and away to Bristol Rovers.’

Clearly he thinks Portsmouth will be out to correct those results and he knows we will have to be at our best to get something from the game, especially at Fratton Park with the fans roaring.

He also talks about how important it is that we keep players fit over this period of games, because he knows he’ll have to use the whole squad with games coming thick and fast and he’s hoping that as the games tick by now it stays as only Matt Saunders and Billy Bingham who are ruled out for this period, and that we don’t pick up further injury worries or any suspensions.

Medy Elito has also talked about the Torquay game and Portsmouth in the build up to the match.

For Torquay he echoes the disappointment expressed in terms of the chances we created, 18 to their 8, and he says the dressing room was a little subdued following the game as the players themselves were disappointed that they couldn’t at least manage to get the equaliser, so now it’s a case of Portsmouth being a really big game for us as we look to pick up something from the game again. Of course for many of the players it will be the first time they have played Portsmouth and experienced their stadium, so Elito hopes we can go there and express ourselves and show what a good side we are.

It goes without saying he also hopes we return home with all three points.
