Manager Wayne Burnett has given his response to our two one loss to Oxford last weekend.

Speaking firstly to the Official Site the manager explained that he feels we simply have to perform better than that in future, especially the first 25 minutes given we were already a goal down before 10 minutes had been played.

Of course before the game Burnett could be forgiven for thinking we would be up against it given we had Doe out with a suspension, Obafemi didn’t recover in time for the game, and we lost Elito following our last training session.

That was compounded by Saunders suffering a problem in the warm up, all of which culminated in the fact that we only had five players in reality on the bench that could be called upon.

‘There’s not a great deal we can do about that, it’s why we have squads, but that’s the reason. I thought for the first 25 minutes we weren’t very good at all, we couldn’t string two or three passes together and we made some elementary mistakes. There was any fluidity or momentum to our game and they were certainly the better team.’

After those first 25 minutes Burnett felt we started to get back in to the game and starting looking like the team he knows we are, and obviously we did just that with Murphy’s goal but overall going in at half time level he did feel was a lucky break.

Of course then whilst Oxford may have felt cheated at only a point we did improve enough to almost hold off for just that, but then they got the winner at the stroke of full time. Even then though the gaffer didn’t hide his frustration that we again failed to reach our own standards in the second period, as with that touch more from us we could well have held out for the point.

On to the next one and back to winning ways hopefully.
