Sam Saunders has been given a virtual free role this season, and he loves it.

The Dagenham midfielder is being given an almost free license to roam and this has seen him score four goals already much to his delight: ‘Obviously I’ve got to do my defensive duties, but I haven’t got that regimental position where I’ve got to be in a 4-4-2,’ Saunders told BBC Essex. ‘The gaffer’s given me a chance to just go out and play and hopefully I’m doing enough to keep his trust in it.’

Saunders’ goals, and all-round play, have helped Dagenham to fourth place in the table. The one and only defeat of the season so far came last weekend against Brentford.

How well do you think Sam Saunders is playing this season? Is his free role something that you can see him revelling in?
