Dagenham and Redbridge have today released a statement over the potential sale of Rhys Murphy to Peterborough United.

The full statement can be read on the Official Site.

It explains that on Sunday the board of the club reluctantly gave permission to the London Road side to speak to Rhys and his representatives over a move, and the permission was given in accordance with a commitment the club had made to the player when he signed for us.

It wasn’t a decision the board wanted to make, as Rhys hadn’t asked for options, and we obviously didn’t want to see him leave the club but it was proper for him to have the opportunity to speak to them.

‘After various discussions by all parties it has become clear that Rhys does not wish to make such a move at this time and is more than happy to commit his playing future to the Daggers for the foreseeable future. The club is delighted with this news and look forward to his continued contribution to Wayne Burnett’s team.’

Obviously the same promise has been made to Rhys again that if a club from a higher level expresses a firm interest in him, the club will allow him to speak to them, whilst probably keeping their fingers crossed that he makes the same choice again and remains with us regardless of what it offered in terms of a fee.
