Left back Jack Connors has been called up by the Republic of Ireland U21 side for their upcoming friendly against the Qatar Olympic squad.

Having signed his first professional deal back in the summer of 2013 having progressed through our youth Academy, the 19 year old went on to make 23 appearances for the club last season.

This is his maiden international call up, and the club wish him the best and hope it’s the first of many.

Speaking to the Official Site after receiving the news, a delighted Connors said.

‘It feels good to be called up, it’s going to be a new experience and something that I didn’t think would happen. It will definitely help me open my eyes to another part of the game.’

Connors says that manager Wayne Burnett informed him following the Hartlepool game that there had been some Republic scouts in the crowd, so he did begin to wonder if maybe he would be getting an opportunity, so clearly he’s delighted to have seen that happen.
