Cambridge United have ended Ashley Chambers’ loan spell with us early and the news was announced ahead of the game against Wycombe Wanderers.

The 24 year old wingers deal was due to expire following the game against Wycombe, but with Cambridge involved in their own play off campaign at the moment, they have called him back to play his part and provide some cover.

In his time with us the player went on to make six appearances for us, and set up our second goal against Exeter City on his debut, but failed to find the net himself in that time.

Manager Wayne Burnett admitted as the news was announced that it was a disappointment because he was actually hoping that we could extend the deal for longer but obviously Cambridge are within their rights to call him back but he will be a loss for the team between now and the end of the season given the impact and part he had played for us and Burnett believed he had settled in really well, so ultimately it’s a chance for somebody else to step up now and we shall have to see if something is maybe done over the summer if the gaffer was that impressed with him.
