Manager Wayne Burnett has said that he was still hoping to bolster our attacking options ahead of the League Two campaign kicking off at the weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site following our most recent friendly, the gaffer said of the performance.

‘I think they worked incredibly hard. I thought we played well and the second half we looked the more likely to score.’

With trialist Christian Doidge scoring our only goal of the game, Burnett said he’d been pleased with his efforts during his trial spell with us so far.

‘He’s impressed me and he’s only 21, but he’s got a really good work ethic and he’s come in and done really well.’

With it being all eyes on Morecambe now on Saturday on home soil, Burnett said he’s pretty confidence and hopeful going into the game, but his wheeling and dealing in the transfer market hadn’t yet come to an end.

‘I’m really excited about the start of the season. We are almost there in terms of players, but we still maybe are looking to bring in a couple more in attacking positions, which we are going to work really hard to do this week.’

The gaffer admits that if he can’t do anything properly, he will wait for the loan market and use that instead, but even with the team not being complete, he’s happy where we are and he’s looking for us to build on last season’s improvement.

‘We are ready, fit and strong to start the season and it’s going to be another tough one, but hopefully we can surprise a few people this season.’
