Manager Wayne Burnett was delighted to see Dagenham pick up our first win and first points of the season in the game against Hartlepool.

Luke Howell and Abu Ogogo gifted us the win with two goals yesterday evening, but it was a hard fought game, and the gaffer was also pleased to see us pick up our first clean sheet of the season as well.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, a happy manager explained.

‘It’s a bit of a relief to get our first win of the season, you never know when it’s coming. I thought it was an absolute excellent away performance and I’m delighted with the effort we showed. Luke had a similar opportunity on Saturday, but tonight he decided to shoot and scored. Abu is also on the score sheet, we’re delighted and it was an all round good team performance.’

In relation to the clean sheet, Burnett knows we pushed it close at points with some of the chances and opportunities they had, but that’s always going to happen when you are away from home and the hosts try to end strongly with their fans behind them, and he thinks we were better in the first half, but in the second half it was certainly a solid defensive display because we came under a lot of pressure – so it was our resilience that pleased him and it was something he’d been looking for us to show in other games.

With the game playing out somewhat similar to the Burton loss, in terms of us leading at half time, and in that game, losing two late goals, that was also another positive for the manager and that game was discussed at half time because nobody wanted a repeat so he pleased with that improvement as well from the players.

First win of many hopefully now.
