Manager Wayne Burnett has said he feels that our loss to Maidstone will do the team the world of good on our training camp in Spain, because it will help focus every single one of them.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer admitted that you never want to lose games, even in pre season, but it’s not the results that really matter it’s all about the fitness so you are ready for the start of the season properly, but obviously an upset along the way can be used as a motivational tool and further focus the players on the work they need to do in the future.

‘You don’t go out to lose, but pre season is about being ready to start the season. We had six players who hadn’t played together but we had 27 shots at goal and I’m not too concerned about losing on Tuesday night, but would like to pick up a win in Spain.’

With four and a half weeks to go, Burnett has obviously used our two pre season games so far to take the chance to look at some trialists in match action and not just training and he’s not going to come to any quick decisions about those currently with us, he’s going to see how he feels in a few more weeks time when he’s had a good look at them for longer.

We have of course added two players this week as well in the shape of Joss Labadie and Matt Partridge, and the gaffer said of Labadie.

‘Joss has played against us on a number of occasions and is very competitive as well as a very good football. I think he will give us strength and size and some experience even though he’s relatively young.’
