19 year old left back Jack Connors has today signed a new deal at Dagenham and Redbridge which will keep him at the club until 2016.

The left back begin his club career in our Academy, and signed his first professional contract back in July.

Since then, he has established himself as a first team regular in Wayne Burnett’s plans and has made nine starts so far this campaign already.

Speaking to the Official Site after the paperwork was completed and the deal signed, manager Burnett said of the youngster.

‘I’m delighted Jack has signed a new contract at the club. It’s now about Jack continuing with is development and progression. I think we have a decent player on our hands.’

Connors himself said that where he finds himself now, he owes to the work of the coaches in our Academy because they helped turn him into the player he now is, and he does find himself somewhat fortunate that Warren Hackett was one of his youth team managers so he’s been able to clearly tell Burnett what Jack’s strengths and weaknesses are, but also it means he’s been able to learn how they wanted him to play earlier on, so when he was called upon he could slot right in.

‘I’ve always believed in my ability, I always believed I was good enough to play and I feel I took my opportunity.’

If Jack can add at least another nine starts to his record this season I’ll imagine he’ll be very delighted indeed.
